USF St Pete - ULIM Comparative Legal Research Project: Research Groups Formed (7 groups)

We are pleased to announce that our students from USF St. Petersburg's Constitutional Law class and ULIM have been formed.  

Today we announced 7 groups, each with 3 USF and 2 ULIM students.

Before their specializations, the 7 groups are as follows:

Group 1: ECHR Article 3 Prohibition of Torture; US Constitution, 8th Amendment ban on cruel and unusual punishment

Group 2: ECHR Article 6, Right to Fair Trial; US Constitution, US Constitution, 4th, 5th, and 6th Amendments

Next, we will have our first joint class meeting during which students will break out into the 7 groups. From there, students will develop their research topics. 

A Research Proposal and Preliminary Bibliography is due in March.

USF St Pete - ULIM Spring 2022 Research Collaboration: Partner Spotlight: VALENTINA CIUMACENCO

We are so pleased to be partnering with ULIM this semester. 

 We are grateful to all of the efforts of Vice Rector for Internationa Relations VALENTINA CIUMACENCO to make this project possible. 

On this blog we will feature the bios of our research partners. 

 Here we want to share more about Vice Rector Ciumacenco:

Valentina Ciumacenco, PhD, associate professor, currently acting as Vice-rector for International Relations at Free International University of Moldova (ULIM). She holds a PhD in Communication Sciences from the State University of Moldova. She has graduated from the Master Program: Diplomacy, Security, Business and Communication (ULIM). Professional training: “University Strategy Building in a Regional Perspective: Action Learning in University –Business –Society Cooperation” (ISOB GmbH Regensburg, Germany, May 2020/ 60 hours); “Cultural Diplomacy and Official Diplomacy: Areas of Common Interest and Interaction”, (Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ukraine, October 2020/ 30 hours); “Emotional intelligence as key to the development of skills”, (Alicante University, Spain, September- December 2014/ 30 ECTS). 

She has conducted research and professional development visits to D. A. Tsenov Academy of Economics, Svishtov, Bulgaria (2021); University of Vienna, Austria (2020); University of Liege, Belgium (2019), Université Côte d'Azur, Nice, France (2019); University of Cadiz, Spania (2018; 2017), Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France, Valenciennes (2018); University ”Mykolas Romeris”, Vilnius, Lithuania (2016), John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, Poland (2016), University of Pécs, Hungary (2014) etc. 

Experience in international projects management. Currently, she is the institutional coordinator of EU project “Integrating Dual Higher Education in Moldova and Ukraine – COOPERA”, Project Reference No. 617490-EPP-1-2020-1-MD-EPPKA2-CBHE-SP. Implementation period 2020-2023; Expert: ,,Moldova Higher Education Leadership and Management”-MHELM. Project Ref. No. 609656-EPP-1-2019-1- MD-EPPKA2-CBHE-SP. Period 15 Nov 2019 - 14 Nov 2022; Member of Advisory Board: ,,Strengthening Research Management and Open Science Capacities of HEIs in Moldova and Armenia” – MINERVA. Project Ref. No. 597912-EPP-1-2018-1-MD-EPPKA2-CBHE-SP. Period: 2019-2022. 

 Membership of professional bodies: Member of Administrative Board of Confucius Institute based in Moldova; Member of the European Association for International Education; Member of EURAXESS Initiative ‘Researchers in Motion’; Member of Competition Assessment Board, University Dunarea de Jos, Galati, Romania; Member of the Editorial Board ‘Journal of Development Studies’, Sulkhan-Saba Orbeliani University, Georgia, etc. 

Research interests: Terminology, Lexicology, Semiotics, Stylistics, Communication Sciences, Discourse Analysis, Internationalization of Higher Education, Higher Education Management.

Publications: one monography, several didactic-methodical supports for Foreign Language Education and over 50 research articles published in Moldova, Romania, Russian Federation and Georgia.

USF St Pete - Poynter Library Bibliographic Research Session - and other prep for the research project

Our ULIM partners do not return to classes until February 10th.  (USF classes began on January 10th.)

However, this does not mean that we have to wait to get started to prepare for this comparative legal research project.

Prof. McLauchlan provided a number of resources to ensure that the students received all of the training that they needed in order to be successful with this research project.  For example,

**reading assignments (including a section devoted to "Researching Legal Materials" in the casebook as well as additional test related to Researching Constitutional Law)
